CAD Conference 2008 Integrated Business Systems (iSYS) was proud to host the CAD Conference 2008 at the Portomaso Suite of the Malta Hilton on Thursday. This year’s edition saw the introduction of the iSYS CAD Competition. Tim Camilleri, Managing Director of IBS Ltd, welcomed all the CAD users present and thanked them for their continued support from the first CAD Conference held eleven years ago. “It makes us proud to be associated with Autodesk and to be recognized as your partner for your CAD requirements”. Simon Tabone, CAD Product Manager, demonstrated the new features in AutoCAD 2009 which included the introduction of the viewcube, an interactive tool used to rotate and orient any solid or surface model in AutoCAD. This new tool will be introduced in all Autodesk products as a common tool for working with 3D models. The delegates present were treated to a presentation by Martin Penaz, a representative from Autodesk International, who gave a thorough and fascinating overview about digital prototyping with Autodesk Inventor. Anticipating weak points avoids building expensive prototypes that will not work, and is a significant time and cost saving issue Matthew Mercieca, an Authorised Autodesk tutor and a professional Architect in his own right, gave an overview about AutoCAD Architecture and Autodesk Revit, and portrayed why a user may decide to opt for one software over the other. Paul Camilleri inspired those present with demos on Autodesk 3ds Max and MAYA, and described how the introduction of ProMaterials, a new library of easy-to-use, physically-based materials for mental ray® has been added to 3ds Max. These enable one to quickly create commonly used building and design surfaces, such as professional wall paint–with glossy or matte finishes—solid glass, and concrete. Nick Spiteri, GIS Product Manager gave an overview of Autodesk MAP 3D and explained how AutoCAD Map 3D bridges CAD and GIS by providing direct access to data and enables the use of AutoCAD® software tools for maintaining a broad variety of design and geospatial information. The CAD Competition followed; the audience was requested to vote for the best design from those submitted. Mr Ian Critien’s design came out as a clear winner, and he was presented with a voucher for a Meal for two at the Oceana Restaurant of the Malta Hilton. |
